One thing that really bugs me is estate agents. I know I shouldn’t moan but it’s the first proper post on my new blog so I’m going to. Its my blog!
I recently put my house on the market. I live in Twickenham which is a nice part of London on the outskirts and I got the usual 3 agents round to value the property. Now I know there are a number of things to take into account when valuing a property like square footage, location, upkeep, garden etc but how on earth 3 agents can differ by over £150,000 on a £400,000 house I’ll never know.
Why £400,000? Well one agent valued us at £325,000, another at £475,000 and the one I went with at £400,000. These are all local estate agents and they cover a fairly wide area of which my Twickenham is in the middle of. Now if I lived in Isleworth, Hanworth or Hampton Hill for example I’d probably be getting a lot less for my house (not that I’m biased) but that’s a big difference in estimates.
The only think I’m really interested in from an agent is that I get on http://www.rightmove.co.uk/ as fast as possible. Lets face it everyone looks there regardless of whos got it on the market!
Now I got a quote on lettings as well to see if was worth me letting out the property to a property management company instead of selling. A retirement fund if you like. £500 a month difference there too.
In the end I decided to put it on the market with Jezzards who are an estate agent in Feltham which is pretty close to us.
I’ll let you know how I get on selling the property but needless to say at the middle price I’m expecting it to be quick. Then I’ll be thinking should I have charged more!?!?!?!?!?
